Banff Snails and What You Should Know

This is me in Banff at the historic Cave and Basin. I am gazing down into a hot spring that is home to a rare and endangered species of snail. Unfortunately, the human use of such hot springs have killed off most of these little fellas, and now no contact with the water in this pool is permitted. This is the sole remaining spot where these snails are still able to live.
Now, you'd think I was some kind of backpacker who really cherishes life on all levels and I am studying the tiny snails thankful that they are still with us.
LOOK CLOSER.
There's some fear in my eyes.
I am going to use this blog as a spot where I can empart some of my wisdom to you, dear reader, so that you may understand Why Animals Cannot Be Trusted.
As for the endangered Banff snail, well, have you seen the movie Pirannah? Where they jump out of the water to attack unsuspecting bathers? That's sort of what I was waiting for in this picture. Or for real, just to all of a sudden become light headed and fall into the spring, killing off the snails once and for all!
